The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 opening match against Mumbai Indians Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) may have been lost, but it is important for captain Rohit Sharma to win the tournament. Harshal Patel bowled brilliantly after beating RCB by two wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. Harshal Patel took five wickets to keep Mumbai Indians at 159 in 20 overs and Rohit conceded that his score was exactly 20 runs short.
“I think it’s important to win the championship, not the first game. Great fight, we didn’t let it go easily. However, the score was not something we were happy with. After the match, Rohit told host broadcaster Star Sports. We were 20 years younger.
He said, “We have made some mistakes, which are bound to happen. We need to move forward. [Johnson] is definitely a talent that we recognize. When you look at the four over situation they have AB and Christian, so we went with Bumrah and Bault and tried to get them out.
Both teams struggled to reach the middle overs and the Mumbai Indians captain believes batting is not easy.
He said, “Batting was definitely not an easy pitch, it was a strange ball. This is something we can think about in the next few games. De Villiers batted really well and got him home. Rohit said.
“As a group we didn’t have much time and it was completely opposite in Dubai, where we started preparing a month in advance. But, IPL is played in this way.
Rohit said, “It can be difficult for teams that have the best home records, but this is the one whose game, you have to go away and win. We are lucky that we are in the park as well.”
The next day on Tuesday, Mumbai Indians will play against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
